How can I make my deck last longer?
Mechanism / Why It Happens
A deck has a limited lifespan, but there are still ways to make it last longer
(1) Tail wear and chipped board edges
If you pop the tail for tricks like ollies, the tail will inevitably wear down over time. There is no way to completely avoid that. However, dragging the tail to brake will wear it down more than necessary, and hitting the board vertically against a wall can cause the nose to chip, so try to avoid those actions. For more about braking methods, please refer to this (Link). It is also known that when the tail wears down, the board loses some of its pop, and a heavily worn tail is called a razor tail. Please refer to the video for more on that.
(2) The storage environment matters too
Decks are usually made of wood. When wood absorbs moisture from the air, it becomes softer and causes the board to flex more than necessary. If you store your skateboard outdoors, try to choose as dry an environment as possible, or keep it indoors if that is difficult.
