Getting Started Body & Brain Mechanics

Why do I get frustrated?

Mechanism / Why It Happens

It is important to avoid falling into a negative loop where frustration keeps building endlessly.

In skateboarding, you are constantly dealing with fear and pain from falling or the board hitting your shins. The human brain has a part called the amygdala, which controls emotions such as fear, anxiety, and anger. When you feel fear or pain, this area becomes more active. As a result, you tend to try to move your body faster and more forcefully, which throws off the ideal timing. This leads to failed tricks, more falls, and more impacts from the board—creating a negative cycle. The key is to understand that your struggles are not caused only by your skill level, but that there is a high possibility that an overactive amygdala is also contributing, so you should actively take breaks.
