Some ramps are better suited for Smith grinds than others. Choosing the right ramp for what you want to do is important.
Some ramps make grinding difficult no matter how hard you try. If the transition is too mellow, regardless of your skill level, the front wheels may inevitably rub against the face of the ramp, or you may simply be unable to lock the board into the proper Smith grind position. That said, ramps with steeper transitions or more protruding coping can be difficult in their own way. One option is to accept that mellow ramps are better for stalls and save your grind attempts for steeper ramps.
