Lift Your Center of Mass to Stay Airborne

Raising your head or chest is not the same as raising your center of mass. Moving only your upper body accomplishes nothing.

A floating ollie requires raising your center of mass. The common misconception is that lifting your upper body also raises your center of mass. In reality, just like moving your torso up and down while sitting in a chair, this motion does not move your center of mass. Even if you lift your upper body before jumping, the time spent lifting your torso is too short, causing your center of mass to begin falling almost immediately.

What to Do

Raising your center of mass cannot be done instantly. Only by coordinating your whole body and lifting your weight over time can you raise it high enough.

Your lower body is primarily responsible for generating the force that raises your center of mass. E
