Lifting Your Body Weight with Both Feet

Mechanism / Why It Happens

No matter how hard you pop, popping alone won't raise your center of gravity. It may actually cause it to drop.

You often hear that you should pop as hard as possible to ollie higher, but you need to be careful with this advice. At the moment of the pop, your skateboard moves much like a seesaw. No matter how hard you push down with one foot, doing so only causes the seesaw to tilt, while your center of gravity actually continues to drop. As another example, imagine placing your foot on thin ice and pushing down hard. You would simply break through the ice, causing your center of gravity to fall. Similarly, even if you focus entirely on the popping motion, that alone will only lower your center of gravity rather than make your ollie higher.
