Transfer Energy to The Board
Mechanism / Why It Happens
The board must overlap the front foot's path. If it moves away from that path, no matter how hard you kick, the board won't flip.
In a Varial Heelflip, the front foot should travel almost straight in the direction of travel, or only slightly toward the toe side. Once that path is fixed, all you need to do is pop the tail almost straight downward so the board overlaps the foot's path. If you lean backward like you would for a Frontside Pop Shove-it, the board moves away from the front foot's path. No matter how hard you kick with the front foot, you won't be able to transfer force to the board.

What to Do
Because of physics, the board can still spin horizontally even if you pop the tail almost straight downward.
Objects, including skateboards, become easier to rotate as the distance from the axis of rotation de
