Mechanism / Why It Happens

To generate forward momentum, you must push backward against the ground. Simply rotating your shoulders or board does not create propulsion.

People often say, "Just rotate your shoulders and board to move forward." However, if you try doing that while standing with both feet on the ground, you'll notice that you simply spin in place. Rotational force only causes your body to rotate—it does not, by itself, generate forward movement.

What to Do

To move forward, push backward against the ground. Shoulder rotation simply makes that movement easier.
