When the wheels hit the edge, the board bounces upward. The real problem is often the rider standing on it.
In a Chinese Nollie, the deck does not hit the ground. As you approach the edge, you push the front wheels into it and use the resulting upward force to lift the board into the air. The edge only needs to be slightly raised. When the board's center of mass is suddenly pushed upward in a very short moment, the board rises. A common problem is that the board tries to bounce upward but cannot rise because the rider's feet get in the way.
