Tail Drag
Mechanism / Why It Happens
Tail dragging not only wears down your tail, but also provides poor braking performance from a physics perspective.
When you drag the tail on the ground, it wears down and can eventually develop what is known as razor tail, making it harder to pop the board. Friction with the ground tries to stop the tail where it is, but your body keeps moving forward due to inertia, which tends to bring the board back toward a level position. In other words, stepping on the tail to apply the brakes does not make much sense from a physics perspective.

What to Do
Despite its drawbacks, it can still be useful for beginners.
In general, tail dragging is best avoided because it wears down the tail. However, for beginners who
